Just as there are no shortages of people

Wanting standby Power, there are no shortages of those who do not know

Which generator to buy or how to install one properly.

Buying the wrong size generator can be a waste of money and buying an oversized generator leads to economic loss since only a fraction of power generated will be used while the rest is wasted.

One of our recent customers bought three before he acquired the right one, after selection, the next hurdle was installation. An improper Installation can be dangerous to both the utility worker and the Homeowner and can even cause the generator to go up in flames.

Picking a Generator

Wattage, wattage, wattage. That’s all most People think about when they pick out a generator. Wattage is important. Without the proper wattage you can’t power the house or an appliance.

However, wattage is not allimportant. There are many other variables that must be considered before you spend your hard-earned cash.

Some generators proudly advertises 6,300 watts, but tofind the real wattage read the nameplate on the generator.

There you see a big difference. (visit www.bowwoodelectrical.com/blog to learn more about this.

You want a large fuel tank?

One that provides the generator with enough fuel so you don’t have to keep shutting the system down every hour or two to fill it with gas. But just getting a large tank isn’t enough. The actual time between fills depends on a variety of factors, including the motor’s horsepower and efficiency. Check the generator’s spec sheet for the “run time,” which takes all of these factors into consideration.

Also try considering muffler.

Generators are noisy

When you fire up your generator, the entire Neighborhood knows. Do not be tempted to put the generator in the garage and close the door to minimize the noise—this is deadly. If noise is an issue, look for a generator that is advertised as being quiet, or at least somewhat more quiet than the standard noisy ones. When shopping, check out the muffler on the generator, which in some cases will be called a “Super Silencer” muffler.

Other factors you seriously need to consider are.

·        Transfer-Switch Style

·        This type of generator plug

·        Exhaust

·        Receptacles
